Quakes Brought Death on the Mississippi — 5 Comments

  1. Carolyn,
Thanks, I love history and my coffee. It makes you think about what else could have been a natural disaster.

  2. I love history but I have never heard or even thought about the effects of an earthquake on river traffic. Thank you for the new info and insight.

    • The epicenter was near, or possibly partially under, the Mississippi so it was very hard hit. The quakes also created and drained lakes (Reelfoot in Tennessee, for example) and affected other rivers.

When the quakes hit next time, millions of people will be affected.
